George Arthur Zimmerman

of Mountain Home, AR

August 14, 1918 - August 16, 2017

George Arthur Zimmerman, age 99, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed on Wednesday evening, August 16, 2017. He was born in Gibsonville, North Carolina, to Nieffer and Nettie Wagoner Zimmerman, on August 14, 1918.
On May 13, 1939, George married Maggie (Madeline) Madren. His three children, Mary, Phyllis, and David were born from this union. His wife traveled with him extensively during WW2, as his work required, for he was part of a carpentry work crew, building many military bases and other government projects. Madeline also helped George start a successful lumber and hardware business in Trona, California. Madeline's sudden death caused him to sell the business which they had operated for over 20 years.
In 1954, George returned to the east and married a widow, Ruth (McClure) Stockburger, who was from Tennessee. They bought a house with acreage in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Besides extensively remodeling his house, he also farmed. He planted large gardens and fruit trees from which he shared the fruit and vegetables with his friends. He and Ruth, together, worked, canned, and traveled a great deal. He also helped other business men in the area, as well as being a handy man for church friends. After a lengthy illness, Ruth died in 2003.
George made many friends because of his generosity and ability to ''fix things''. He was loved for his winsome personality and delightful laugh. Above all, George was respected for his integrity and devotion to his Christian faith. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and looked forward to being with Jesus his Savior.
On July 3, 2006, George married Marie Barber Meador, in Forest Oaks of Greensboro, North Carolina, whom he had known from his school days in Gibsonville.
He is survived by his third wife, Marie, by his daughters: Mary (David) Bermani of Brea, California, and Phyllis Knobelauch of Santa Rosa, California, and son, David (Lorna) of Trona, California, as well as by step-sons: James (Hazel) Stockburger of Clinton, Tennessee and Rhea Stockburger of Oliver Springs, Tennessee. He also is survived by five grandchildren: Keith Knobelauch of New York, New York, Jeniece (Jeremy) Aragon of Santa Rosa, California, Neil Zimmerman of Boston, Massachusetts, Dale Zimmerman of Ridge Crest, California and Matthew Bermani of Washington State and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and their spouses: Mildred (James) Kirkman, Irene (Ernest) Newby, Grace (Richard F.) Moore, Gaynell (Jesse) Wicker, one brother and his spouse, Kenneth (Mildred), and two wives: Madeline (Madren) Zimmerman, and Ruth (Stockburger) Zimmerman.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel, Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ken Lampe and Pastor John Easterling officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church Mission Funds or Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Marie,

So glad you and Uncle George had those special years together.
I know you will miss him and so will we. He was the last link
in our family chain and we could always ask him questions about the Zimmerman family. Now we will remember and cherish
all the memories we have of our time spent with him. May you find peace and joy with your family and friends who will be there to get you through this trying period.
