Roger Dale Whisenant, 72, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, in Mountain Home. He was born in Wagoner, Oklahoma, to Claude and Marcella (Atkinson) Whisenant on May 5, 1945.
Roger proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. He then enjoyed careers first as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad and later as a building contractor. Roger was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mountain Home.
One of his favorite pastimes was taking family and friends out on the White and Buffalo rivers. He was an avid reader and fisherman and loved playing cards. Family and friends, especially his grandson Dylan, were so important to him.
Roger is survived by his wife, Carolyn Whisenant, of Mountain Home; son Jeff Whisenant of Mountain Home; sister Marilyn (Jim) Roberts of Bakersfield, Missouri; brother Bill (Cindy) Whisenant of Belvidere, Illinois; grandson Dylan Whisenant of Mountain Home; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Zoe Whisenant.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Roller Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at First United Methodist Church. Internment will be in Baptist Hill Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home.

Dear Family, I knew and worked with Roger many years ago on the railroad. I have many fond memories of him . He was a fine man and good friend. I'm so sorry for your loss. My prayers to all of you.
What a loss to all of us. Roger was a wonderful person and even though I have not seen him for several years I recall our visits talking about family, friends and school days. Billy and Marilyn we are thinking of you and we send our condolences.

Roger was a great man, he will be missed by many people. I met Roger about 12 years ago, and enjoyed talking with him very much. I am sorry for the families loss but he is no longer in pain.
