Greta Jean McLin Jones

of Batesville, AR

February 25, 1936 - August 15, 2017

Greta Jean Mclin Jones, 81, of Batesville, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017. She was born the only child of Wayne Lone McLin and Mattie Lou Easley McLin on Tuesday, February 25th, 1936 in Harrisburg, Arkansas. As a child she had fun going to the farm with her father. During her school years she worked typing in her grandfather's law office, played basketball, and graduated from Harrisburg High School an honor student. She married Eddie T. Jones Jr. from Tyronza, Arkansas in 1953. For their honeymoon they took a trip across the southwest to southern California. They lived in Tyronza, Memphis, Tennessee and Jonesboro, Arkansas. She worked in the office for the E.L. Bruce Company while living in Memphis. Settling in Jonesboro, she attended Arkansas State University as a mathematics major. She was a bookkeeper for McDaniel Brothers Construction Company and Orkin before devoting her time solely to being a homemaker, wife and mother. After moving to Batesville they operated a farm and a ''junktique'' store called Out-of-the Attic. For a brief time they returned to Harrisburg to help care for her step-father, Col. Guy T. McHenry.

She is survived by a son, Timothy L. Jones and wife, Jaclyn; three grandchildren, Larkin, Greta Raelea, and Korbin Jones; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Jones Jett and husband Petty, and Barbara Jones Warfel and husband Leon. She has several cousins, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years and her parents.

She enjoyed playing canasta, reading, especially poetry, and working in her yard, which was always in bloom. Cooking was the enjoyment she is most remembered for. She always had a pot of strong black coffee on and a snack to share. Each person had a favorite '''' fudge for some, pecan pie for others '''' or maybe bonbons. At meal time there was always enough for one more. She loved to travel and see new places, and eat the local food. But most of all she loved children. If a child was near, they would be found together reading, playing, walking, cooking''¦.

She taught us to read, write, and do math. She showed us how to tell time, cook, fish, play ball and clean. She taught us to ride a tricycle, a horse, bike, motorcycle, but she never could ride the unicycle. Her vocabulary was diverse; she could speak many languages '''' Matchbox to Hot Wheels, Teletubies to Power Rangers, Packman to Pokemon, Transformers to Lego, and many more. She always made time for the kids, friends, and neighbors. If she met a stranger, always looking for the good in everyone, she made a friend. For life's little issues, her answer was to give a quote from a poems or a book, and to ask God.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017, at the Roller-Crouch Chapel in Batesville officiating by Tim Landers. Burial will follow in Egner Cemetery at Salado.

Pallbearers will be Larkin Jones, Jason Easley, Justin Easley, Jarred Householder, Dan Cagle and Mark Turner.

Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Bolivar Cemetery Association Maintenance Fund, PO Box 67, Harrisburg, AR 72432

Tim,
Greta was one of the kindest loving people that I know. She is in a most wonderful place where she can watch over us all. I can see her surrounded by the children in heaven reading a story.
She will be truly missed. May God send you comfort knowing that she is not suffering any more.
