Joyce Etchison, age 92, of Harrison, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in Harrison. She was the 7th of 9 children born to John Monroe and Ada (Barnes) Kuykendall on November 1, 1925 at Oxley, Arkansas. Along with her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Leotis Etchison, and all her siblings.

Joyce graduated from Leslie High School in April 1944. She began teaching in a one-room school house in Campbell, Arkansas the next school session. She eventually moved to Little Rock and then to Harrison. There, she met and married the love of her life, Leotis Etchison, on January 19, 1957. They lived all their married life in Boone County. She worked as a telephone operator for 34 years, until she retired in 1985. Joyce was a faithful servant of the Lord at the Batavia Assembly of God Church. She served as the church treasurer until age 86.

Joyce is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Melba and Nelson Henderson and Janet and Tollie J. Sutterfield; her grandson, Travis Henderson and wife Susan of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her granddaughters, Rachel Blackwell and husband Dennis of Maumelle, Arkansas, Chelsea Jordon and husband Nate of Harrison, Nikki Keys and her husband Jacob of Harrison; her great-grandchildren, Indy and Cooper Harris, Aspen Jordon, Reed and Ella Henderson and Beau and Scarlett Joyce Blackwell; her sister-in-law, Lela Etchison Estes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.



Visitation was Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Batavia Assembly of God Church.

Funeral service was Saturday at Batavia Assembly of God with Rev. Nelson Henderson and Rev.Tollie Sutterfield officiating.

Pallbearers were Joyce's' grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Shannon Brownfield and Lynn Mayo.

The family would like to especially thank the Summit Hall of Hillcrest Home and Dede Harris for her loving service to their mother.

Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Melba and Jan,
So sorry for your lose, she looks so much like Grandma Smothers in this picture! I know you'll miss her greatly but she's rejoicing in Heaven, surrounded by people who love her dearly. Prayers for all of you.

To the family of Joyce Etchison,Prayers to help get you all through this,I worked with Joyce for several years at the Phone Co.and I never met a more sweeter lady than her,she always had a smile and a good morning to anyone approaching her.It is a Blessing to know she is with Jesus now,remember the fun times with your mother,grandmother and great grandmother and always cherish the memories.
