Frances Marie Slaughter James was born on November 11, 1925 in Corsicana, Texas and died peacefully on August 18, 2018 at her home in Searcy. She is survived by daughter-in-law Linda James of Columbia, Tenn.; daughter Lisa Ritchie (Bob) of Searcy; grandchildren Heather Diles (Ben), Tracy Rogers (Jeremiah), Benjamin James (Kelle), Bennett Ritchie, and Alex Ritchie (Logan); and eleven great-grandchildren (Hannah, Harrison, and Emily Diles; Lilly and Daisy Rogers; Greta, Ingrid, Dietrich, and Christian James; James and Eliot Ritchie.)

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Richard (Dick); son Richard Jr.; and parents O.L. and Bettie Slaughter.

From east Texas, Frances traveled to Virginia to marry Dick in 1944. Together they lived in Germany, New Mexico, Texas, New Hampshire, and South Dakota during his career with the Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, they lived in Texas and Pennsylvania where she was a faithful and energetic partner with Dick in ministry to the Lord's church.

Frances had a fierce love for her God and for her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. A gracious host, she delighted in having guests around her table, often serving them her delicious chocolate pie. She was a loving friend to people of all ages.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 2 pm in the auditorium of the College Church of Christ with visitation following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gander Brook Christian Camp or World Bible School.

I am so very sorry for your loss. At this difficult time, please take comfort in knowing God's promise of the resurrection at Acts 24:15 - "There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." We can look forward to seeing our loved ones again soon.
