Doris Gail Ragland

of Marshall, AR

May 27, 1936 - February 2, 2017

Doris Gail Ragland, age 80 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Thursday, February 2nd, 2017 at Washington Regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born in Marshall, Arkansas on May 27th, 1936 to Robert Earl Ragland and Della Mae Young Ragland.

Doris was a member of the Church of Christ. She was baptized at the age of 12 in the Buffalo River. Doris had a strong faith and never missed attending church on Sunday unless she was ill. She had a very nurturing spirit and was an amazing caregiver. When her mother became bedfast, Doris was her caregiver and they developed a very close and special relationship. Doris was an excellent musician and loved to play and sing. In younger and healthier days she spent a lot of time traveling with her friend James Yancey and playing at several venues. They especially enjoyed playing and singing in Mountain View where they often went to Jimmy Driftwood's Barn to join them in music and song. The last few years a lot of Doris's time was spent at the Marshall Senior Center where she enjoyed playing Skip Bo, Bean Bag Baseball and other games with her many friends there who she thought of as family. Even though Doris had no children she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own, and thought of her great nieces and nephews as her grandchildren. She had a very close and loving relationship with them all and they loved her very dearly.

Survivors include her siblings, Carol Busbee and husband Otis of Marshall, Juanita Treadwell of Hamilton, IL and Leonard Ragland and wife Virginia of Marshall; nieces and nephews, Bryan (Jennifer) Busbee of Bella Vista, Todd Busbee of Elkins, Danny (Janet) Treadwell of Hamilton, IL, Connie (Larry) Dighton of Carthage, IL, Kathy (Tom) Farris of Hamilton, IL, Ann (Tracy) Longnecker of Warsaw, IL, Robert Treadwell of Hamilton, IL, Scott Treadwell of Hamilton, IL, Joel (Cheryl) Ragland of Clinton and Windell Ragland of Marshall; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, friends and other family who will also mourn her passing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Garland Treadwell and great nephew, Kent Sawyer.

Funeral services for Doris will be 2:00 PM Sunday, February 5th, 2017 at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Donald Patterson and Bro. Cody Ragland officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM preceding the service. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery at a later date.

I remember Doris for her friendliness, kindness, and consistently affable personality. I will always remember her singing ballads such as Eutaw Carl and I will always remember the last hug she gave me. I miss her!
