Willie Mae Edwards

of Bee Branch, AR

September 29, 1922 - December 24, 2017

Willie Mae (Gordon) Edwards, long-time resident of Bee Branch, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 24, 2017. She was born on September 29, 1922 near Wolverton Mountain to William Gordon and Anna Belle (Oliger) Gordon.

At age 16, she married Luther Edwards and together they had four children, Helen, Pat, Benny and the late Jimmy Joe. Side-by-side she worked with Luther at whatever job needed attending at the time, from hoeing cotton to picking strawberries and finally retiring as dairy farmers.

She was a member of Pleasant Valley General Baptist Church since 1942 where she actively taught Sunday School, VBS, WMS and volunteered at the Formosa Youth Camp.

Along with raising her children, she was also a Godly example to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her passion for quilting was evident in the quilts she gifted that will be cherished for a lifetime. She spent countless hours in the garden and the kitchen preparing meals for her family, never complaining of the suffering effects of crippling arthritis. She never stopped teaching the young ones in the kitchen explaining every detail with compassion. The life she lived portrayed the servant heart she possessed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 75 years, Luther Edwards, one son Jimmy Joe Edwards, four brothers; Archie, Olen, Elba and Charlie Gordon along with one sister; Ruby Shipp, two half-brothers; Allen and Arlie Clowers and two half-sisters; Ella and Stella Clowers.

Left to cherish her memory are one son; Benny Edwards, of Bee Branch; two daughters; Helen (Doyne) Ward, of Clinton and Pat (Bill) Rogers, of Bee Branch, Sandra Edwards of Bee Branch, eight grandchildren; Christy Turner, Lance Rogers, Pamela (Steve) Bone, Lisa (Stacy) Kirk, Staci (Tim) Clark, Keri (Chad) Burford, Jami (Tom) Fooshee, Chip Edwards, nine great-grandchildren; Jed Turner, Abby Bone, Dalton Jackson, Emily Kirk, Alex Clark, Austin Clark, Coby Wilson, Camron Wilson, Chelby Wilson, eight step great-grandchildren; Hunter Fooshee, Carley Fooshee, McKenzie Fooshee, Laken Burford, Rodey Burford, Ashley (Rusty) Flickinger, Tyler Kirk, Chase Kirk, other relatives and numerous friends.

We would like to give a Special Thank You to Ozark Health Nursing Home for the passionate care they bestowed on Granny for the past three years. It has been a tremendous blessing

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at Revelation 21:3,4
(3) "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. (4)And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.

Aunt Willie Mae was a fantastic lady. She worked hard all her life and always had a smile, because she was used to hard work. She was an excellent cook, seamstress and quilt maker, and her ability to excel at these things came naturally, since she was surrounded mostly by men who couldn't teach her these things. Her strength and beauty always amazed me, and heaven is blessed to have her presence.

Mrs. Willie Mae, What a beautiful legacy of a godly christian woman who made everyone's life better because she walked through it. My girls and I were blessed because she touched our lives with God's love. To the family, may our Lord's strength and grace sustain you.
