of Little Rock, AR
January 31, 1927 - September 22, 2018
JOHN E. HONEA, 91, of Little Rock passed away Saturday, September 22. He was born January 31, 1927 in Sutton, Arkansas.
As a World War II veteran, John was part of what has been called ''The Greatest Generation,'' but his dedication extended to much more than country. His life was one of perpetual dedication to all those around him-as a loving husband, father, mentor, and friend. He was a longtime deacon of his church; taught Sunday school for 15 years at Serenity House, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility; and was involved in medical missions to Russia and Mexico.
Appointed to the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy in 1978, he was the owner of Cantrell Drug, where for 40 years he would often open the store in the middle of the night to fill a needed prescription.
He leaves behind Leta, his beloved wife of 60 years, as well as two children: Jeff Honea (Katherine Hughes) and Lynn Honea McCarley (Dell); eight grandchildren: Trey McCarley, Tyler McCarley (Maria); Daniel McCarley, William McCarley, Hannah McCarley, Abby McCarley, Rachel McCarley and Carolina Honea; and two great-grandchildren: Yahshua and Eliana McCarley.
A private burial on Friday, September 28 will be followed by an 11 a.m. service at Fellowship Bible Church on Kirk Road in Little Rock. Visitation will follow.
Lynn and Del,
I am so sorry to hear about Lynn's father. I am praying for your family.
We met John and Leta when we moved from Memphis to Little Rock in June 1975 and we have been best friends all these years. Our children grew up together and were good friends. We moved to Fl in June 2016 but we have kept in touch. We had plans to meet John and Leta at the end of Oct. at orange beach and spend some time with them. Leta we love you and we will always remember you in our prayers. John was a good man and I always enjoyed my time with him. He would talk about his army days and I would talk about my Navy days.
Dearest Leta and family, I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. You were both so dear and supportive to me over the years. I miss seeing you both but am praying for the Lords peace to be with you and comfort you as we celebrate a life well lived and loved. Mary Ann
Lynn, Sorry to read about your dad's passing away. My father in law, Art Eastin, enjoyed playing golf with your dad while he could still play. Many blessings to your family. Don and Andrea Campbell
