Ann Wildy Carpenter

of Marion, AR

August 23, 1956 - March 22, 2024

Ann Wildy Carpenter died peacefully with her daughters by her side on Thursday, March 22, 2024.

Ann was born on August 23rd, 1956 in Memphis, TN to Charles and Katherine Wheeler Wildy and raised in Etowah, Arkansas on the beloved family farm, a magical place.

In 1974, Ann graduated from Osceola High School and went on to Baylor University where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.

In 1980, she married her high school sweetheart and favorite guy, Scott. It was the beginning of a strong and sweet marriage that was the foundation of a beautiful life in Marion.

She served many years as a speech therapist in Marion schools where she made lifelong friends. She was a devoted member of Marion First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School and leading children's church for many years. She was a faithful member of the Rebekah Ruth Circle.

Ann had the distinct pleasure of working with her mother, Katherine Wheeler Wildy, in the family business, Wildwood Antiques, for 20 years. Like her mother, Ann delighted in spending time with visitors to Wildwood and made each person feel welcome. She continued to enjoy the family business in the years after the death of her mother.

Ann was kind. Gracious. Generous. She had a unique ability to connect to people in a way that was familiar and comforting from the first moment. The kind of person that shows up and helps when a friend is in need. In turn, she had a community of close friends who returned that kindness during times of illness and for those friends she was forever grateful.

Ann's greatest joy were her daughters, Katherine and Laura. She created a home full of love, humor and warmth. Throughout the years she extended that warmth to many of her daughters' friends, often inviting them to sit and visit at her kitchen table, where she made them feel valued and loved, just as if they were one of her own.

Ann's optimism and steady presence will be missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Scott. She is survived by her daughters, Katherine (Brad) McGraw of North Little Rock, AR and Laura Carpenter of Springdale, AR and a host of dear friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024 at Marion United Methodist Church at 11:00, with visitation at 10:00 at the church. Memorials may be made to Marion United Methodist Church, 81 East Military Road, Marion, AR 72364 or West Cancer Center, 271 W Polk Ave, West Memphis AR, 72301.

Met Anne my first year in Osceola as a high school freshman. Anne was very unique. Never knew her to be anything but kind, considerate, sweet and beautiful. Surprised she passed this early in life
Especially since we need more people around with her qualities.

Ann lives in our hearts. I am SO GRATEFUL to have known her. She always gave me joy in any encounter. Any thought of her now fills me with deep peace, and deep grief. Rest in the presence of our King, dearest friend. We are sisters in Christ and sisters in a sorority where we studied, worked and laughed, side by side. Jessica

Ann's girls, I am from Etowah. I am not with you all today as you celebrate the life of your Mother, even though I am with you in spirit. I loved your Mother and your Grandmother. Your Grandmother taught me when I was in the 7th or 8th grade in Keiser and then she tutored me in the summer. I remember as a young girl watching Lucille Jackson braid and style your Great Grandmother's hair. Ann told me recently her name was Alvina, I only knew her as Mrs. Wildy. My family connection to the Wildy family goes back to when your Grand Parents moved from Illinois to the Etowah community. My Dad, Carl Heard, was the first person to happen on the site of the tragic accident that claimed your Uncle Leroy. My Dad told me the week of his dying that was the hardest thing he ever did in his life was to deliver the news to Mrs. Wildy about Leroy. Emotions run high when we love each other. I remember that your grandmother attended the visitation for my Dad's funeral and also sent an Italian Cake to Mother's home. What a joy for me to share my love for her as I recall those days. Then one day as I was working at the front desk at Marion School District appeared your Mother with her application in hand. What a wonderful day for me to meet her and know that we were from the same place, Etowah Arkansas. I grew to love her as she worked there. She, as you both know, was blessed to have her girls and you were blessed to have her as your Mother. I share your loss with many others, knowing she left her mark being present with us. I yearn for the day of our return to meet our loved ones in eternity, and we can be assured she will be among us. The scriptures tell us God loves us and is with us at all times. I hope those of us who have expressed to you our connection and love to your Mother will be of comfort to both of you, along with God's WORD to you and me. Take comfort to know your parents are together again. Sincerely and lovingly, Christine Heard Shoemake

Katherine and Laura, Ann was a dear friend from Baylor days. She excelled as a student and was adored as a friend. Ann had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She brightened up every room she entered. During my first year at Baylor, Ann and I got remnants of cardboard and "sledded" down the grassy slope abutting the interstate next to the campus. There were lots of spills and lots of laughter, after which we headed to iHop for a late night snack. She was responsible for so many innocent and fun moments that I remember from those years. I have a vivid memory of meeting your dad for the first time when he visited Baylor one weekend. Scott and Ann were on a swing together in front of Baylor's Student Union Building. Your dad was warm and gracious. Seeing them together, it was obvious that they would marry someday. I celebrate their joyful marriage blessed by the two of you. Even in the midst of a season of grief, I give thanks for their faith and the sure knowledge that they are whole, they are together, and they are surrounded by love. I'm so thankful for your parents. They were truly special and brought joy to so many others. Blessings to you!

There was never a more lovely person than your mother, Ann. She was scholarly, kind, loving, giving and so full of optimism. She loved her church, her family and your wonderful grandmother, Katherine. We in her PEO chapter will miss her so very much and we, her customers at Wildwood, will be lost without her jewelry guidance and her antique knowledge. You girls were so fortunate to have such a very special mother as your mentor in life. Ann and Scott were a perfect team to raise two fine young ladies. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Please know how much everyone loved your mother. Christie White

She provided emotional and spiritual support to Cindy during Cindy's battles with breast cancer. Prayers for peace and patience for those that knew and loved Ann.

Laura & Katherine, your lovely mother is remembered by many of us from Baylor. Her obituary was sent to a group of us. All the comments of her were the kind we all would want said about us. I remember well her talking of your father, her devotion to him, and her love for him. I also remember being amazed that she only wore cotton. A most kind woman with a sweet, sweet smile! What a most difficult time for both of your parents to pass in a short period of time. You and all who love them will be in our prayers.
