Mr. Wayne (Ted) Evans Broyles, age 80 of Mountain Home, AR passed away April 6, 2011 at Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House. He was born February 4, 1931 in Brighton, Illinois.

After leaving school in Alton, IL, he joined the Navy and was asked to serve four years in the Navy during the Korean War.

At the last of his Navy days, he was stationed in Phoenix, Arizona, met and married Kathleen Nanninga of Phoenix. They were married for 17 years and had four daughters, Dena Sharon (Dennis) Reese of Warrenton, MO, Brenda Broyles (now deceased), Beverly Elizabeth Broyles of Warrenton, MO, and Laura (Tony) Fitzsimmons of Norfork, Arkansas. The marriage ended in divorce. On July 3, 1968, he married Martha Rulon of Alton, IL. He later adopted her daughter, Jody (Erik) Horberg. There is a stepson, Terry Schmoeller, residing in Waco, TX. His parents, George Ray Broyles and Floreda (Jones) Broyles predecease him. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Evelyn (Robert) Down of Cameron, Missouri, and a brother, William Gene (Sharon) Broyles of Brighton, IL.

He was a mold maker for 31 years with Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Alton, IL. He was a volunteer firefighter for almost 50 years and was the Fire Chief of Salesville, AR for 10 years. He was also a First Responder while on the fire department. During the later years of his life he was a security guard at Meek's Lumber in Mountain Home.

He was an avid fisherman with many tales to tell. In the last years, he had followed a dream of his and twice went gold prospecting in the hills of California bringing home again many tales of adventure. He has enjoyed playing the banjo and singing gospel music with his family. He died peacefully and is now with his two favorite uncles out on the lake having a good time.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
